Case 033: Death of a Stuntman

If you’re reading this, I assume you received the murderer’s package and know what’s going on.

John Malvone is dead – and I’m afraid any one of us is next. We’ve been told that we can’t leave or call the police until we’ve figured out whatever this killer’s “secret” is. I put together this page so that I can post anything I learn that might help.

If you choose to use this site, you’ll still need to email Sullivan about the location where John was murdered. Apparently, the killer hid something there that we’re going to need. You’ll also need to email him the case’s Solution once you’ve found the killer’s final message and know whatever their secret is.

I think we need to take a closer look at the message on the place setting – if we read it carefully, I think it should tell us what we need to do.

It says we need to “cut it out,” right? What if it means that literally and we need to cut some things out of the invitation? Try looking at the invitation while you read the rest of the place setting’s message to see if you can figure out what we need to do.

I got it!

I thought Sullivan was going to have a heart attack, but I grabbed a pair of scissors and cut out the hat and magnifying glasses on the invitation. Then, I put it onto the place setting so that the area where the hat had been was on the person’s head. When the invitation was in place, these words were visible where the magnifying glasses had been:

“I saw St. Claire 5 minutes after King.”

Great – Now I’m going to have nightmares. Is this person stalking us or something? Talk about creepy!

I don’t care what it takes – we’ve got to figure out how to stop this person and make them pay for what they did to John.

For now, our first step is to figure out where John was killed. As creepy as the killer’s message is, I’m pretty sure it will help us figure that out. You’ll probably want to write it down on the voting card for the time being. Then, once we’ve worked through some of the other clues and have found all three pieces of information that we’re looking for, we should be able to use the card’s table to figure out where John was killed.

When you’ve figured out where the murder happened, be sure to send Sullivan an email so he knows where to check. When you do, include the word location so he knows what you’re talking about. If you haven’t emailed him yet, you can do so at SleuthKings.com/Case-033.

Sorry – I don’t have much yet. All I know for sure is that the first three words of the message are: “Unfortunately, I murdered.”

Hopefully that’s enough to give you someplace to start. For now, all we can do is keep trying to make sense out of the rest of the message.

Me and a few other people here at the party just figured this out. The message says:

“Unfortunately, I murdered John ten minutes after passing the living room.”

John was kind of a jerk, but he was our jerk. He didn’t deserve to die. Whoever killed him had better watch out! If I get my hands on them before the police do – never mind. I don’t want to implicate myself by putting the rest of that sentence into writing.

Try paying attention to the colors of the words on Clue 3. If I’m looking at this correctly, I’m pretty sure both the words and their colors are telling us what we need to look at on the other documents in your case file.

Also – and this is a guess on my part – I think the paragraphs in Clue 3 that have colored letters each spell out a single word.

Good news – Sully just cracked this one!

Each colored word in Clue 3’s message is a single color, while the matching words on other documents are multicolored. The trick is that we need to find the matching word and look at the letter that matches its color in Clue 3’s message.

For instance, on Clue 3, “Junkyard” is blue, right? The word “Junkyard” is also on the button, but the only letter there that’s blue is the “K.” According to Sullivan, that means we only need to look at the “K.”

When we do that for the rest of the colored words, we get the message:

“King was in the guest room.”

How scary is it that this person was close enough that they could have killed any one of us? I wonder what made them choose John. Could one of his ex-girlfriends have finally caught up with him?

Now that we’ve worked through Clues 1-3, I think we should have all of the information we need in order to start using the voting card to figure out where John was killed. Remember, once you’ve figured out where the murder took place, you’ll want to let Sullivan know so we can look for whatever the killer hid for us to find.

Before we can start to make sense out of the voting card so we can figure out where John was murdered, I think we need to solve Clues 1-3 first. Once we’ve learned all we can from those clues, we should have everything we need in order to figure out where the murder took place.

I was having trouble keeping track of everything we’ve learned so far, so I compiled a list. Hopefully, it will help:

Voting Card: I passed King first.

Voting Card: I passed the game room after 15 minutes.

Clue 1: I saw St. Claire 5 minutes after King.

Clue 2: Unfortunately, I murdered John ten minutes after passing the living room.

Clue 3: King was in the guest room.

Like I mentioned before, once you’ve figured out where John was killed, let Sullivan know so that we can search for whatever the murderer left for us to find. Thanks again for all of your help with this. I’m still in shock about John being dead, but I can’t even begin to process it until we’re out of danger. We’re going to find whoever did this – don’t worry about that. First things first, however – we’ve got to survive.
