Case 302: Magic and Murder

As I mentioned in my note, I’m sure that my conclusions will match Sullivan’s. That being the case, if you’ve already asked him about these clues, you probably won’t learn anything new here.

If you do choose to use this site, you’ll still need to email Sullivan about the case’s Solution once you’ve figured out where Chris will be murdered.

I keep getting lost partway through the directions, but here’s what I’ve got so far:

Even with that much figured out, we still need to figure out where the remaining directions are telling Tammy to go:

“Pass two doors on your left, and then turn right. Walk straight and pass four doors that face you. Enter the fifth door, on your left. That’s where you’ll find what you’re looking for.”

Don’t worry! It took me forever, but I finally finished tracing Tammy’s path. Here’s what it looks like:

Assuming I didn’t make any mistakes (I’m pretty confident I corrected all of those), that means Tammy was in office B.

That doesn’t seem like it’s going to be particularly useful with helping us figure out where Chris is, but I could be wrong. For now, you’ll probably want to write it down and use the information to fill out what you can on the information sheet Brian put together.

It’s a really slow process but, so far, I’ve figured out what the first four lines of the spell are trying to tell us. They say:

“I saw Mike 20.”

Finding the points and figuring out which letter each symbol stands for is time-consuming but, hopefully, the message can help us save Chris’ life once we’ve figured out what it says.

I finally finished it!

Like I mentioned before, each numbered point on the circle is beside a symbol. The chart of symbols tells us which letter each one stands for. It took me a while, but I was able to find each point on the circle that was mentioned in the spell. Once I found the point, I looked at the symbol associated with it and figured out which letter it stands for. After doing that for each point mentioned in the spell, I got the message:

“I saw Mike 20 min before show.”

I really wish this person would have told us where they saw Mike, but beggars can’t be choosers. For now, you’ll probably want to write it down and use the information to fill out what you can on the information sheet Brian put together.

Good news – I found all of the letters associated with each symbol:

Now that we’ve got all of the letters, the next step is figuring out how to unscramble them so that we can make sense out of the message.

No worries! Somehow I managed to unscramble everything:

Menooes = Someone

Cfoief = Offíce

B = B

Tnseimu = Minutes

Rbeeof = Before

Dtspeto = Spotted

After I replaced the symbols with the correct words, the message says:

“Someone was in office B 10 minutes before I spotted Chris.”

It’s about time we learn something about Chris! This might not tell us where he is, but at least it’s giving us some information about him. For now, you’ll probably want to write it down and use the information to fill out what you can on the information sheet Brian put together.

Like Sully said in the Clue Analysis, our first step is to rank the letters in “wonderful” alphabetically. Once we’ve done that, we’ll have to replace the numbers in the top row with their corresponding letters in the word “wonderful.” From there, I think we’ll have to rearrange all of the columns so that the top row spells “wonderful.” When we’ve done that, I think we should finally be able to read the message.

After ranking each of the letters in “wonderful” alphabetically, we should see these numbers:

W = 9

O = 6

N = 5

D = 1

E = 2

R = 7

F = 3

U = 8

L = 4

With that taken care of, the next step is to replace the numbers in the top row with their “wonderful” letter equivalents. Then, we just have to rearrange the columns so that the first row spells “wonderful.” Here’s what it looks like once that’s done:

Of course, once you’ve worked through Brian’s information sheet and know where Chris is going to be killed, you’ll need to send Sullivan an email to let him know. When you do, be sure to include the word Solution in the body of your email so he knows what you’re talking about.
