Case 014: The Great Escape

As I mentioned in my note, I’m sure that my conclusions will match Sullivan’s. That being the case, if you’ve already asked him about these clues, you probably won’t learn anything new here.

If you do choose to use this site, you’ll still need to email Sullivan about the Location of Erin’s Kidney. You’ll also need to email him the case’s Solution once you’ve figured out how he can escape from whatever trap James Robbie has set for him.

Important Note:

I’d highly recommend sending Sullivan an initial email to see how his investigation has evolved since he shipped your case file. If you don’t, you’ll likely miss out on the details about whatever Robbie’s trap is.

I sure hope you didn’t play with your Rubik’s Cube, because you’re going to need it completely whole and correct if you want to follow the directions in Robbie’s letter. Luckily, I’ve already done it, so if Sullivan asks me for help, I can play with his cube and freak him out. I’ll remember the answer for him. Probably…?

In case you’re struggling with it, I’ll give you a hint. When you get to the line that talks about how the detective buried his snow white innocence beneath him, the white side should be on the bottom, blue will be to the left, and yellow to the right.

If you start it from there and follow the rest of the instructions, hopefully it will help you figure out which color is facing up in the end. Whichever color is on top should indicate the section you’ll want to look at on the colored sheet included with the letter.

When you finish following the directions in the letter, the red side ends up on top. That means you’ll want to follow the instructions listed in the red section of the colored sheet next.

I know it’s tempting to play with the Rubik’s Cube now – believe me – but I’d recommend against it until we’re sure that we won’t need it again. For now, just remember the cube’s orientation: red is on top, blue is to the left, and yellow is to the right.

You’ll want to take a look at Clue 1 to figure out which direction its arteries need to point so that we can read the correct message.
Wow, I really wouldn’t want to have to put this together again! That was more difficult than I anticipated! Here’s a picture of the kidney completely put together: (If you’d like to view a larger version, click here: https://bit.ly/2PYcLKa) Thanks to Clue 1, we also know that the correct message is: “Way to destroy  a nice card, Sully. Quite classy, huh? By now, you should be trapped in my room. If you want to escape, you’d better find the  kidney. I started a gas leak, so you don’t have long. Surprise! Now look  at the colored cards. The first needs an  animal on it.” He started a gas leak? Where? Is that what he’s planning on doing once he traps Sullivan? If that’s the case, Sullivan really won’t have long to find the kidney and escape whatever situation Robbie sets up for him. Either way, it looks like the other important piece of information here is that if we want to put the cards in the correct order for Clue 3, we’ll need to start with one that has an animal on it.

This might help – the last card is the white one with the word “Sully” on it, and the second-to-last card is the yellow one with “Better” on it.

If we follow the instructions under the last card, they tell us that we need to look at the third letter of the word directly before “Sully.” Since Robbie’s instructions say that we need to use the “Get Well Soon” card’s message, we’ll want to find the word directly before “Sully” in the correct message, which is “card.” Since the third letter in “card” is “R,” we know that wherever the kidney is hidden ends with an “R.”

When you’ve had a chance to put the rest of the cards in the correct order, see if you can figure out what word it is that they’re trying to spell. That word should give us the kidney’s location.

When you’ve got the kidney’s location, make sure you let Sullivan know where it is. If you haven’t already emailed him, you can do so at www.SleuthKings.com/Case-014. Make sure you include the word “location” in your email so that he knows what you’re talking about.

Between the rules listed on the ad and Robbie’s stipulation that the first card must have an animal on it, the cards’ order has to be: gray, green, orange, blue, yellow, and white.

When we find the words listed on the cards in Clue 2’s message and follow the instructions indicated below each card on the ad, we get the word “liquor.”

I’m not sure what that means yet but, hopefully, it’ll make more sense to Sullivan. If you haven’t emailed him yet, you can go to www.SleuthKings.com/Case-014 to do so. Or, if you have, you can respond to the last email he sent you. Either way, be sure to let him know that the kidney’s location is somewhere with liquor. With any luck, that’ll make sense to him, and he’ll be able to find Erin’s kidney – along with anything else that can help.

I’m having a hard time with this one because Robbie used some kind of scrambled up keypad to write this message out. I’ve got a feeling that he’s left a clue about the keypad itself with Erin’s kidney. If you haven’t already told Sullivan the kidney’s location, I’d recommend doing so. You can either respond to any of Sullivan’s emails to let him know the kidney’s location, or send him an email from www.SleuthKings.com/Case-014.

Anyway, here are what I’m pretty sure are the first three words: “Forward twice. Left.”

Once you’ve got the keypad that Robbie used, you have to look at the possible letters on each key and see what word each string of numbers can make. What helps is the fact that each string of numbers can only make one word, so there aren’t multiple possibilities for each.

When you’ve decoded the message, I think you’ll want to start off where you left off with the Rubik’s Cube. In case you forgot where that was, blue was to the left, yellow was to the right, and red was on top.

Follow the directions once you’ve got the rest of the Sleuth Escape Notes decoded. When you do, whatever color is on top in the end should tell you which section to look at on the colored sheet included with Clue 1. You’ll want to follow those instructions.

It was rough without having Robbie’s keypad in front of me, but I finally figured out his code. Let me tell you, I feel accomplished! Here’s what it says:

“Forward  twice. Left. Backwards. Right. Right  again. Forward.”

If you pick up where we left off with the Rubik’s Cube before and follow the instructions, we end up with yellow on top.

I’d recommend taking a look at the yellow section of the colored sheet that was included with Clue 1. Whatever those instructions are, I hope they’ll be able to help Sullivan escape whatever it is Robbie has planned for him.

When you’ve figured out whatever the yellow section is trying to tell you, make sure you let Sullivan know. You can either reply to the last email he sent you about this case, or send him an email from www.SleuthKings.com/Case-014. Either way, be sure to let him know that you’re sending him the “solution” to whatever problem he’s gotten himself into now!
